CED EU Info 2015/04

Issue 4 - December 2015

Agreement reached on new EU data protection legislation

On 15 December, European institutions concluded years-long negotiations on the new EU General Data Protection Regulation. The Regulation will replace existing legislation from 1995 and aims to harmonise data protection across the EU. New rules are expected to be in place from early 2018.

Dentists will be affected by the new legislation in their daily work.

Specifically, the legislation will define the requirements for patients' consent for processing their personal data, the right of patients to ask for their information to be erased, and the modalities for ensuring that data is safely stored. CED Office and relevant CED working bodies will analyse the legislation and provide further information to our members.
